Hi all,
I don't know whether you have all be following the news recently, and I remember well how difficult it is to concentrate on anything else when undergoing treatment, but just in case you haven't I wanted to draw your attention to the debate on legislation in relation to legislation on the use of Artificial Reproductive Technology in Ireland.
Following the very sad recent legal case about access to frozen embryos stored at SIMS, Mary Harney has announced that she will introduce legislation governing ART in the near future. Since then the (so called) pro lifers have been out of the traps at lightning speed to demand basically that any legislation will protect the embryo prior to implementation in the womb, which as far as I understand it would ban IVF treatment as it is currently conducted in this country. Richard Greene from COIR made a statement to this effect last week and Breda O'Brien had a totally disingenuous article on Saturday's Irish Times which basically argued for the same thing but wasn't upfront about it.
I don't think the government necessarily shares the same views but I think that those of us who have or are using IVF and associated technologies should campaign to make sure the legislation suits our needs. I am thinking of going to see my TDs to explain the situation and maybe setting up an online petition. What do you all think of this idea? Would anyone be willing to get involved?
all the best,
Sparky
Hi Sparky,
Like you and others have been reading and watching interviews on tv. Good idea about a petition. Will let you know if I come up with any idea's.
Happy Christmas to you too

I was at the last meeting in Dublin last March and we spoke about this very briefly. I would be very interested in getting involved in any way I can, be it signing an online petition or any other way that I can help.
