Re: whats in store

Hi Hope,

I'm also new to this site and also new to writing on forums! I'm more or less at the same stage as you. I had my first appointment with the Fertility clinic 3 weeks ago. We have been trying to conceive for the last 2 1/2 years. We went to our GP last year and he did the initial blood tests and hubby had the semen analysis done. Everything came back normal so we decided to give it more time. When nothing happened we asked our GP to refer us to the Fertilty clinic. When we got the appointment, the clinic asked us to re do the blood tests again as they have to be within the last 6 months. Hubby didn't have to do semen analysis again though, just the blood test. So, to answer your question, yes you will have to do initial tests again. They will ask you to get 2 blood tests done; One on day 2,3 or 4 of your cycle and the other on day 21. Your first appointment will probably just be a consultation and they will do an internal vaginal scan on you (it doesn't hurt!). Everything for us came back normal so they booked me in for a laparoscopy & dye to check for edno or blocked tubes.

And this is where i stand at the moment.... My appointment for the lap & dye is in Nov. I've been told it's a day procedure but i will be put under general anesthetic. I completely understand that you are starting to freak out a little. I've freaked out a millions over already. It's the waiting that kills me and i'm so scared what the outcome of the lap & dye will show.

Best of luck with your appointment and hopefully you will get the news you want soon!

If there's anyone else out there who has had a lap & dye done, i'd be grateful if you could let me know how ye got on after it!

Jane

Re: whats in store
Hi ladies. I'm also new to the site !
I went to my GP initially for my day 3 and day 21 tests back in Dec 09.
When I rang for the results the nurse said there was something up and I'd have to speak to the doctor.
The doctor told me I was grand and to give it time - the usual bullshit. That we were young etc.
So we carried on and this year I sent an inquiry form to sims clinic.
I had done some research on the net and they seemed very progressive.
I'm a private patient which seems to be the o ly way to get things done in this country unfortunately.
My husband had his semen analysis which was fine. I had an amh blood test which indicates your ovarian reserve - mine is good.
I had a Sis which is an internal scan to check the uterus, it's size etc as well as the ovaries and tubes. This was fine - a bit crampy that's all. The doctor referred me for a hsg as he was unsure of one of my tubes. I had to go to the beacon for that. They insert a dye and then x-ray you- that hurt a bit, I went into spasm but my tubes were clear and I could have kissed the doctor!
So the question remained was I ovulating? Well we were unsure. So my doctor prescribed tamoxifen and pregnyl. The way that works is you take the tamoxifen for five days from cycle day two, then you have a scan on day 12 to see if there are any follicles coming to maturity, then you give yourself the injection and 36 hours after injection you get busy!!
so that's my story so far- it's not too bad and the doctors and nurses are amazing. I have found them very supportive I must say.
Feel free to ask me anything - I'd love to think I could help someone

Re: whats in store

hi,

me and my partener have been trying since nov 2009 and have been having unprotected sex for at least 5yrs now. anyway were complaetely stressed out by it all as im sure every couple bes. ive had my 2 blood tests done bac in may last year and had my 1st gynie appt last week which was basically a consultion only. im now waiting on a scan to test my tubes, my bf is away to his docs dis wk for his test and ive to wait another 3mths for my next gynie appt to find out whats next.

the stress of waiting is unreal and i also feel like we arent being taken seriously as we are unmarried and both only 27.  anyhows, were both on the medical card which explains the waiting time, i waas wondering if you could give me a rough estimate of costs if i go private and also what all to expect (as in my next line of pocedures). thinking of saving to go private for the longer were waiting could literally mean a baby r no baby?

thanks and the best of luck to you for the future,

breda
