Hi, I'm new to the forum, have attended the infertility clinic in CUMH since April of 2008. Would just like to hear from any members who have attended the same clinic and how they experienced it.
My story is: I'm 27, so is my fiancé. We have been ttc since October 2006, so 3year anniversary is coming up soon :-( I've been told I have PCOS, only to get a different doctor telling me I don't. All my bloodwork has been perfect, just have late ovulation and not very mature follicles, also have multiple cysts on both ovaries, consistent with PCOS... My partner has had his swimmers checked, and they are perfect. Very frustrated and impatient (by nature, even worse now) Altough friends and family are very understanding, it is a lonely place to be, and so many ppl pass hurtful remarks, often without even knowing it. Am planning to go to the next NISIG-meeting, but will miss the next one in Cork so I'll go to the Limerick one instead.
Hoping to share my experiences here with you all.
Keep positive and I hope you all find the other side of this dark tunnel soon :-)
Ulle
Hi Ulle and sorry to see what you've been dealing with. It is incredibly tough I haven't been to the same clinic as you but I can certainly identify with the isolation and frustration even if family do their best to understand.
As for different diagnoses, have you had an explanation as to why you've heard two different things? I wonder is it a case of shades of PCOS? PCOS was never mentioned to me in my first clinic but when another clinic looked at some of my results, they assumed I had PCOS so I have wondered since then do I have a mild version of it perhaps. I wonder could something like that be the case for you?
Have you had much in the line of treatment yet? I really hope you get the the bottom of your difficulties soon and find a treatment path that works for you.
Hi Caitriona, and thanks for your reply. I was thinking the very same thing, that it could be a very mild form of PCOS, but it's so frustrating when the doctors are contradicting each other. As for treatments, I've had a HSG, which they said increases chances of conceiving, but not for me :-( I've done 6 cycles of clomid/pregnyl over 8 months (2 breaks) and am now taking metformin (glucophage) for the next 6 months to see if that helps. Have actually felt a bit more human since starting the metformin (felt like I was losing my mind on the clomid) and my moodswings are gone Thank God! Libido is on the up aswell and that's nice :-D
Thanks again for your kind words, it means a lot to me :-)
Hi again Ulle, it's crushing when you're one of the ones that these things don't work for (hsg, clomid, etc.) but i'm glad to hear that at least the metformin isn't so hard on you. Be kind to yourself as you go through this!
