First consultation at fertility clinic

Hello,

Was wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect at the first consultation appointment.

We attending Galway clinic. The letter we received stated a full checkup and scan but what exactly

does that mean? What would be checked in the 2nd appointment. Sorry but I'm a details person!

Also on a personal note do other women find that their friendships have altered during this process almost

like the desire to talk or meet them has disappeared. I feel like we on different planets!

Thanks for any responses,

Maraine

Re: First consultation at fertility clinic

Hi.

I never reply to these sites but I fine reading them very helpful sometimes.Your first app will be that' A check up'.I suppose they will check bloods,do an internal scan on youself and sperm count on you partner.Thats unless you alredy know the cause of your infertitily?App 2 will then be the results of them all I expect and decide from that where you go next.Hope that was a little helpful.

As for the friends thing,I have lost alot of interest in my friends.Dont know if its the fact that they all seem to be pregnant or already have children.Plus they have no idea how I feel while doing all of this ivf.

Re: First consultation at fertility clinic

Thanks jen 123 for the response. Well I now know what the 2nd appointment is for. We have to attend for the results and the outcome, hmm.

We dont know what the problem is or even if there is any. We trying for well over 2 years and no pregnancies! So its a mystery as yet.

It good to hear I'm not the only person who has no interest in friends and for the exact same reasons. Feck me no one tells you this part when you

decide your ready for the pitter patter of little feet in your life.

Best of luck with the ivf. Fingers and toes crossed for success.

Re: First consultation at fertility clinic

Hi,

It is good to know your not the only one going through it.My hubby must be sick listen to me giving out and moaning but have no friends in the same boat so to hard to talk to them. And he gets it all.

We've been trying for nearly 3 years now.I Have only one fallopain tube thought it mite just take a while longer to conceive but it hasn;t worked that way.Have done ivf twice,it worked the first time but had a miscarraige at 7 weeks. And the second time it just didn't work. Not quite over that yet only happen 4 weeks ago.

Have good days and bad days. The whole country seem to be pregnant at the minute.Bloody recession nothing else to do.

Good luck with your appointment.

Re: First consultation at fertility clinic

Hi Maraine

thinking back on my first appoinment I was very nieve. We knew about Clomid but GP wanted Clinic to perscribe it. So we gave that ago. While monitoring my cycle and Clomid. We did family history and general health check. This can take awhile and for me I wanted things to happen quicker. I suppose at this stage you just a to check all basic stuff and move onto the next stage.

I understand the FRIENDS thing. I told my friends but even though they knew it  was a very difficult at time. I never went to our local SC as they have Mothercare and I felt Saturday mornings every PG woman was there.

The one thing we did was join NISIG and attend the meetings. I falicate the DC meetings now. NISIG was the support we needed to talk to people who really understood. We learned so much about IVF clinics and general stuff about ferility.

It can be a long journey and getting the support from NISIG is what made it easier at times. the next meeting is on in 7th May in Dublin and 13th in Limerick.

For more details give the supportline a call and you can get meetings information. 1890 647 444Monday - Friday7.15pm - 9.15pm

Wishing you all the best
