Hello all, I recently read an article on a new IVF technique called in-vitro maturation - it's basically IVF without the need for hormones. Is anyone aware of this and whether it will be available in Ireland any time soon? IVF is my only option to conceive and I am in the process of learning as much as I can about it. Any information would be welcome ...thanks
Hi Hopeufll77, I've read about it as well... here in the USA, and it is not so easy as some articles talk about it. You would still have to get stimulation, but not as aggressive, and it is a method only for specific cases such as PCOS... Here in the USA only few clinics offer it. It has a much lower pregnancy rate as well... Good luck!
Greetings hopeful77
Haven't heard about In-vitro-maturation. It would be great if this was a new way forward, as some women have side affects from the different drugs/hormones they have to take. I was lucky I didn't have too many (I did donor egg treatment and was succesful)
If you are in the process of trying to find out information give the helpline a call for a chat. I found attending the NISIG meeting was my thing. I found the people I met better than any book, web information etc. They are people who have gone and who are going through this journey. It's was a difficult journey for me and my hubbie but with the support of family and friends we got through it together. And we will always be grateful and thankfull to all the people we meet through NISIG
Keep intouch and post any information you find out. Could help others.
take care Cats
Hi Baby, Cats,
Thanks for your responses . I guess IVM sounds exciting to me as I am quite apprehensive about taking too many pills of any type.....I'm one of those sad individuals who reads all the pack information on pills and checks for all potential side-effects on the Internet before taking them!!!!! . Although I know taking pills is the least of my worries...
Anyway, as I am a new here I hope these links work but here are the articles I read if anyone is interested.

Regarding the NISIG meetings, I am strongly considering attending a Cork meeting soon however (I know this is silly) but I am just afraid of meeting someone I know! I really would like to talk to people in the same boat because other than my partner, only my immediate family know about my infertility and it is difficult to talk to them about it as they have no understanding of the emotions involved (no fault of theirs of course). Anyway for the moment it's great to have the support of the people here and hopefully I can offer as much. I guess I'll see you on the other threads.
Take care, hopeful xx
Hi Hopeful77
I had similar feelings too. Our first experince was the NISIG Conference a few years back. I remember going into the hotel and thinking everybody looking at us. Like I had a big sign on my head. All I can say is if you meet someone you know, they will understand how you feel and will probably thinking similar thoughts. It was the best descision I made and helped me so much. I know when it comes to family they try to understand ( best intensions) but NO one understands unless you are on this road in life .
Hope you get to the next meeting. And yes I always have alittle look at the threads, to see if I can help others. It meant so much to us when we were on our journey. Take care Cats xx
