Re: Help, need some advice

Hi Covie.

it's very hard this journey but when your faith in your Doctor & clinic is tested it's harder. My thoughts are with you. And if you can't rant here where can you. I understand. Had a days of ranting myself ....... My poor hubbie

As for your research, I feel that the addvances in fertility treatment have come on so much and testing on antibodies etc will the future. We went for egg donor in Spain our second cycle worked. We didn't have any to freeze and 1st cycle none to got to transfer our Doctor was thinking it was antibodies in hubbie sprem.  But we didn't head down that road.We were blessed with twins

Might help you but I'm not sure if you know there's a NISIG meeting this Saturday in Dublin. I found the meeting a life line as the discussion fourm weren't  up and running. I'm head to the meeting. I like to think  I can help others as I got so much support when I was on my journey.

Hope your feeling a bit better today and have a good night sleep

Sweet dreams to you

Re: Help, need some advice

Hi Cats,

Thank you so much for your message, it really helps to talk to people who understand what you're going through.  Unfortunately we're based in Galway so can't make the meeting this weekend, would definitely go to one if they come to the West.  I think I'm going enquire about the tests in other clinics and see what they say.

I think we're going to take the summer off and relax a bit, and decide about going for our 3rd IVF at the end of the summer.  It really is so frustrating though having so little faith in your Clinic, they keep telling us we've been "unlucky" instead of finding out ways to help the IVF work, they've been so dismissive about the tests I've mentioned.

Anyhow, thanks again for your message of support. xx

Re: Help, need some advice

Hi Covie,

I can really identify with your feelings of frustration. I too feel that some of these clinics are not being proactive enough when it comes to diagnosing the causes of infertility. I myself have had one failed IVF attempt after numerous ovulation induction cycles and was being encouraged to go for another IVF cycle.  I have autoimmune problems and even though I have voiced my concerns in this regard , nothing was made of them. I am now moving to the S*ms clinic where I understand there is some interest in autoimmune related infertility issues. I don't know if they will be able to help but I do know that I will not be pressurised into having further IVF treatment unless my autoimmune concerns have been addressed.

There seems to be a far greater interest in this area in the US and UK. Some of the treatments are considered "experimental"  here in Ireland and can only be accessed abroad. Irish clinics need to start adapting a more holistic approach and consider the whole spectrum of issues that affect fertility and not just a limited few.

I hope this will help Covie. All the best. Molly

Re: Help, need some advice

Hi Molly,

Thanks for your post.  I'm definitely contacting the Sims tomorrow to see if they'll do the bloods.  I spoke to my Doc today, I asked if they could do the blood test for the NK cells if I really wanted to have them done, she said she didn't think anywhere in Ireland did those tests, I was able to tell her that Sims do, nice to know they're well up on information!!!!!!!!  I'm going for a Laporoscopy  next week to see if they can find anything, as I have a poor response to the high levels of medication, I don't have a large egg response, so hopefully they might be able to shed some light on things, although i really don't have much faith in the clinic at this stage.

Good luck to you with Sims, I hope all your dreams come true.

Covie

Re: Help, need some advice

Hi Covie,

Just to let you know that there is a range of autoimmune conditions that affect fertility as outlined by Dr. Alan Beer, a pioneering doctor in the U.S. who had a real interest in this field. ( Unfortunately, he died last year but others continue his good work and research)NK cells are just one of a range of conditions that can be tested for. As I said in my last post, much of the pioneering work in this field has occured in the US. The rest of Western Europe are just "catching on " to these new ideas. It could be another ten years before these treatments become readily available here. So, I'm  at the stage where time really is not on my side and unless I get in contact with someone who has a genuine interest and expertise in this area very soon, the likelihood is that I will not have children. For now, I'll keep working on it and keep hoping but whatever the outcome will be, at least I know that I will have done my best!!  Will keep you posted if I have any further information. Have a nice week end,

Molly
