Waiting for assessment for inter country adoption

Hi all,

Just some advice to you all. We started our fertility  journey a few years ago. Some advice we got at the Nisig meeting from other couples was to put our names on the HSE list to be assess. ( It was the last thing on our minds at the time but we didn't reaslise it would take so long). This was over 2 years ago and I have just received information pack to start the process. We were told at the time there was a long waiting period.(Didn't think it would be over 2& half  years)... I know this depends on the area you live in.

There is alot of information to required. If you are thinking this might be a new road on your journey. I would advise people to enquire about adoption.

All the best

Cats

Re: Waiting for assessment for inter country adoption

Hi Cats,

I would strongly agree (We are in the middle of assesment). The adoption is a very long  journey and apply as soon as you are ready.

However I do feel there is a right time for people to apply. When we applied it felt right for us. If you are considering it at all, start talking to your partner about it. We spoke about adoption for a long time before we applied.

Applying for adoption has not precluded me from feeling the grief of infertility. It can still be very painful. However we hope that, at some stage in the future, we will be come home with something precious for us to love and care for.

Cats, I want to wish you and everyone on the adoption journey the best of luck.

Love Folle

Re: Waiting for assessment for inter country adoption

Hi Folle,

Think your right. I found making the first step for adoption extremly difficult. But one of the girls at the NISIG meetings, told me how long the list were (depending on our area) So some how we got the courage to take the first steps. At the time it felt like I had giving up on the donor journey even before we tried.  I can understand the grief you feel. I am so happy to say we are blessed with twins through Donor treatment .

I hope that you will have very soon a precious little one to love. I wish you all the best on your journey

Love and hugs Cats

Re: Waiting for assessment for inter country adoption

Hi Cats,

Many congratulations on your twins.

For us the adoption journey is stressful and tiring and very unpredictable but, I feel, you get in the 'zone' and go with the flow. Every month is a step closer.

I will still go to the nisig meetings. I feel I need the support as much now as when I was going through treatment.

Regards to anyone going through treatment as well as those on any stage of the adoption journey.

Folle

Re: Waiting for assessment for inter country adoption

Hi Folle,

thanks for the good wishes. I can only imagine the stress and unpredicatability of it all. Especially when another country in involed. Was hard enough for us to go to Spain at short notice. But in the worth it.

I understand the need for support still. I got so much from others at the meetings  I'd like to thing I can help others

Hope you have a good weekend

Cats
