Re: Donner recipiant

What a rollercoaster, Meave!   So you've been doing this cycle since last June!!  I so so hope this 2WW ends in positive news for you and that in 8.5 months your dreams finally come true.  All the very best with staying sane over the next week and a half!  It's a killer of a wait.  But one advantage of having blasts transferred is that you have a few fewer days to wait I suppose.  (But then again, you waited those days earlier on!)  GOOD LUCK MEAVE!

Re: Donner recipiant

hi Maeve,

one week down and one to go. hope you are getting plenty of rest  and positive thoughts. Was driving passed clinic yesterday and was thinking of you.

ourselves we off on the double donor route. have e mailed a number of clinics in Spain  and 1 in Greece, but travel to Athens looks expensive and complicated so I think Spain is looking likely. Have 2 appointments in JAnuary with 2 different clinics. Not sure if to attend both and then decide or choose 1 and hope it is the right decision. any advice greatfully accepted.

they are looking for tests before we attend. is it best to go to a clinic or a private hospital?

why is everything so complicated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Donner recipiant

Hi Pauline,

I am not a frequent poster but myself and DH decided that we would also go down the donor route after initially thinking that it wouldn't be for us at all. We went to IM in Barcelona in September for a first appointment and I am now just about to start my meds. IM is more expensive than other clinics but there is no wait for a donor which is what made us decide to go there initially. The clinic is impressive and beside a large private hospital that I gather they will be taking over soon. They have also opened up in Harley Street in London by the way.

The doctor we met was friendly in a professional way and the rest of the people we met were also helpful. You are assigned an assistant who helps you with appointments and paperwork and generally "minds" you while you are there. You are also assigned to a medical assistant, generally a nurse, who I am in contact with more now that I am on the road!! The clinic isn't far from the airport and Barcelona is very easy to get around. Dr A**y*rs at the Be**con (!) is going to look after scans etc and I have also found him to be very nice and understanding. So far so good - will let you know whether it was all worth it.

Our decision was helped enormously by going to NISIG meetings and to the donor meeting with the couple from the UK, can't remember their names. They just put us at ease so much and we really felt like we weren't alone and it was of huge comfort to us both.

Wishing you every success with your journey!

Gail
