Scans at Home after Treatment Abroad

I'm new to this website and this forum.  And new also to DC.  An option only recently contemplated.  Research is ongoing and I hope that questions I have at this time can be answered.  We are considering a consultation with a clinic in Alicante Spain.  If anyone has been to Spain, did you inform your GP of your decision?

We are living in Cork and I think about the scans that will be required?  Does anyone know if CUMH do them?  I read about going for a scan which checks for proper lining of the womb pre-transfer and a scan, two weeks after transfer?   I know generally after a pregnancy is confirmed by your GP, she would then arrange a scan and appointments with the hospital.  Would the same apply were you an egg recipient from a clinic abroad?  If so, I guess this answers my question re: informing your GP.

Look forward to some replies.  Thank you.

Re: Scans at Home after Treatment Abroad

Hi Karina,

i have in the past attended a clinic in Dublin and did enquire about DC, the clinic worked in conjunction with at least one clinic in spain and told me at the time that they would do all the scans i needed prior to transfer., and that i would just travel for the transfer.  I'm not aware of a scan after transfer, this may be new but i think you just teat first a home 2 wks post transfer and then follow up with your gp. As for telling your own gp, i dont see the need to inform them until such time as you have a result (hopefully a positive one) they would then confirm with blood test and they could then arrange an early scan at your nearest maternity hosp.  You may need to check about prescriptions and meds though and make sure you are covered on your hse card .  You should go along to one of the meetings that discuss DC, i'm sure it would be a hugh help to talk to other couples who may have gone down the same route.  Doubt this is of much help but best of luck on your journey!! s

Re: Scans at Home after Treatment Abroad

Hi Karina,

When we were doing own-egg IVF treatment at a clinic in Barcelona, DW used the Beacon Clinic for the various tests and checks. I know the SIMS offer a "satellite monitoring" service for a flat fee, but it worked out cheaper for us to go with the Beacon as it turned out.

Hope that helps!
