choice of clinic for ivf with donor egg

hi ...would like to ask for thoughts/advice/opinions on choice of clinic/country for egg donation.

We are just going down this road after 4 unexplained miscarriages, many tests and no answers! We've spoken to clinic in Spain and they do seem v. helpful and knowledgable and I'm reading good things about them here and on other forums. Hwoever, I've also read concerns for some/many on the total anonymous nature of donation in Spain vs UK. I had expected v. long waiting lists in clinics in UK but I phoned a few to check and some are quoting only about 6months wait if we use egg share (i.e. someone going through IVF donates some of her 'excess' eggs). So this has thrown us a bit.

Any idea is there are advantages/disadvantages of egg-share? UK vs other countries for ED? thanks in advance.

Re: choice of clinic for ivf with donor egg
Hi Lucey

I am sorry to hear of your 4 miscarriages. We did 4 ivfs and 2 of them resulted in miscarriages, the other two didn't work at all, so we went down the route of Egg Donor and we have twins on the way. We used IM in Barcelona and thought they were good. There is no waiting list and once you get on the programme things move quickly. We didn't consider the uk route as we heard that the wait was long (but the 6 months you quoted seems very reasonable)
We were not keen to do egg sharing preferring to have our own donor so that there would be a better chance to produce siblings down the road from frozen embryos. As it turns out we had none to freeze, and this is common, but we got twins which makes up for that. I'm will re contact your original donor down the line to see if they would be wiling to help again.
We got brilliant support from coming to the Donor Conception meetings run by NISIG. I would strongly advise you come to the one at the end of this month. They are very informal and you get to meet people in the same position as you, trying to find the clinic that suits them best, there is also people who are going through the treatment that you can talk to, and also people who have come through the other end and have children of their own now, so the support continues all the way through, and includes "talking and telling" etc. We began going a year ago and we have really found it fantastic.

I wish you the best of luck and hopefully you will get to a meeting and have your questions answered, or at least listened to!

Re: choice of clinic for ivf with donor egg

HI Lucey,

Sounds like you've been alot through the last few years. I can uderstand all your concerns regarding the anonymous nature of egg donor, We too thought hard about wheather to go to the Uk or some were in Europe. In the end  we went to Spain a few years back to do donor egg. We had two cycles and were sucessful and are blessed with twins. I found the clinic we use great on all fronts but I'm going to say that cause we were sucessful :-)

As the other message posted, there is a NISIG Donor meeting on a the end of the month.

29th Jan in Dublin, Ring the NISIG supportline 1890 647 444 or email nisig@eircom.net  The meetings are informal and a great way to t meet people who are on the journey  and to find out first hand about different clinics.

Regards

Cats

Hi Lucey

I have lots of practical information on IM barcellona such as places to stay and costs and scans in Ireland etc and I will be at the meeting this Saturday, so I will be happy to let you have a copy. Hope to see you there!
